Building Trust and Confidence
Enhancing trust and confidence through culture change at New Zealand Police
Public trust and confidence in the New Zealand Police has jumped 9% (up to 78%) over seven years as a result of culture change initiatives.
New values, code of conduct and business strategies helped reconnect staff to their purpose; recruitment and promotion valued diversity and inclusion; and early intervention strategies and tools have helped prevent inappropriate behaviour.
Building a diverse culture is better for the organisation, and for public confidence. For example, Asian businesses involved in Operation Ping An ('safety') run in Counties Manukau in 2015, reported increased trust in the police.
